4BR Interview with Brass Band BlechKLANG

4BR Editor Iwan Fox talks to Alexander Richter and Johannes Leutloff of the pioneering Brass Band BlechKLANG from Germany about the challenges they now face during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Brass Band BlechKLANG are working hard to secure their future.

In the latest in the series of interviews with brass band players, conductors and personalities around the banding globe, we catch up with Alexander Richter and Johannes Leutloff, two of the leading personalities of Brass Band BlechKLANG in Germany.

The organisation boasts over 260 members in four different levels of bands, but the Coronavirus pandemic has had a dramatic effect on their activities.

Ongoing activities

Their youth band was due to take part in the European Youth Championships in Palanga, whilst their other ensembles were due to give a series of concerts — ones that would have provided the essential income to fund their activities.

The duo speak of the challenges the current situation poses and how they are looking to keep things going — including their own crowdfunding initiative.
