Loyalty

A spokesperson told 4BR: "Although Don retired from playing ten years ago, he still came along to practices occasionally and barely a rehearsal went by without someone recalling one of his familiar sayings.

Don was totally committed to the band, instilled loyalty and dedication in generations of members and worked tirelessly for many years to keep the band on an even keel."

He will be fondly remembered by many people in the brass band world with great affection as a gentleman and a true bandsmanShirley Band

Fondly remembered

They added: "He will be fondly remembered by many people in the brass band world with great affection as a gentleman and a true bandsman."
