Storey starts new chapter at Sandhurst Silver

The highly respected British Army euphonium player John Storey will hopefully be spending a bit of time in the future in the civilian ranks of Sandhurst Silver.

Sandhurst Silver Band has announced the appointment of John Storey as their new solo euphonium.

Regarded as one of the finest military brass players in the UK, John is currently based with the British Army Band (Sandhurst) and succeeds Steven Williams who has recently moved to the North-West

The Besson artist is a former member of the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain and reached the brass final of the 1996 BBC Young Musician of the Year competition.

Army career

After graduating from Huddersfield University, he went on to become principal euphonium of the Band of the Coldstream Guards.

During his career, he has regularly represented the army internationally as a guest soloist, including performing as a soloist at the US Army Band Tuba and Euphonium Workshop in Washington DC in 2003, 2013 and 2018.

Outside of the military, John has played with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra 'Brass at the Cadogan Hall' concerts in 2013 and 2015, as well as the progressive rock band, Big Big Train.

Quality player

Speaking about the appointment, Sandhurst Silver Professional Conductor, David Johnson, told 4BR: "I'm really pleased that we are able to appoint such a quality player.

Over the last few years the band has gone from strength to strength and this appointment further emphasises that. He is a phenomenal player."
