Worldwide interest in Clifton awards

The virtual online approach made for worldwide support at the recent Clifton & Lightcliffe Band evening.

Clifton
The award evening was held online this year

The Clifton & Lightcliffe Band took an innovative approach to making their band awards this year, with a virtual evening of presentations due to the restrictions imposed by the Coronavirus pandemic.

Organised by cornet player Kerry Lawrence, it became something of a worldwide event, as players and supporters were joined by friends from as far afield as Spain, Italy and California.

Presentations

After a fun quiz it was time for the presentations, with the prize for winning the most weekly quiz titles going to the Johnston family. Awards were also presented to Pam Lumb, Jane Clay, Stewart Swallow and Alexander Smith.

The 'B Band Best Section' was claimed by the back row cornet team, with the 'Players Player Award' going to solo horn, Olivia Gregory.

The 'Most Improved Player' awarded by MD Mick Silson went to baritone player Justin Bartholomew, whilst there was a special mention Anne Schofield and Andy McKinley for helping the B Band over the last 12 months

Senior Awards

The Senior Band awards were claimed by the 'Best Section' trombones, cornet player Alex Murray and soprano Christopher Partington as the joint 'Players Player'.

Christopher also picked up the 'Most Improved Player' accolade from MD John Clay, with Jayne Clay being presented with the 'Bandsperson of the Year'.
