A new regular blog that focuses on mental health issues through the lens of being a player within a brass band has just been published.

Ross Dunne is the award-winning horn player with Tredegar Band who undertook a major break from playing following his mental health diagnosis.

He stopped playing soon after winning the 'Best Horn' award at the 2021 Brass in Concert Championships.

Breaking the silence

Now he says he is "breaking the silence"that all too often stops people from discussing mental health issues and how they can be addressed, alleviated and hopefully, eventually overcome.

Ross told 4BR: "It's crucial to promote mental health awareness across the banding world and beyond. The best thing anyone can do in this situation is to talk.

Making mental health a normal part of our everyday conversations is important for the future of its awareness."

His blog which has been published today is called 'My Mental Health Story'. Ross will update the blog on a regular basis and hopes it will encourage more people to speak about issues, seek advice, support and help.
