Uppermill enjoys long awaiting podium Raid in Rochdale

Uppermill Band has made a welcome return to the top step of the contest podium with the aim to build further on the success.

Uppermill
Long awaited celebrations were enjoyed by the band in Rochdale

The Uppermill Band recently enjoyed a long awaited return to the top step of the contest podium.

It came as under the baton of James Garlick they won the Second Section of the Rochdale Contest with their own-choice performance of Oliver Waespi's 'The Raid'.

First victory

It was the band's first taste of victory since they triumphed at the Second Section North West Area Championships in 2020, so little wonder according to their MD, they all enjoyed the celebrations.

"We wanted to test ourselves and 'The Raid' is well known for its challenges in its rhythmic and dynamic sequences,"he said.

"I was really impressed with how the band took on the piece with such confidence and their work rate up to the contest was fantastic. They all delivered on the day — both soloists and ensemble, so I couldn't have asked for anything more."

Constructive remarks

James added that he thanked adjudicator Sarah Groarke-Booth for her thoughtful and constructive remarks, which offered valuable feedback on how to build further on what was an impressive winning performance.

He added: "That recognition paired with the victory, marks a significant achievement for the band after a busy year and we are now looking to build on that momentum with our next project involving a studio recording studio in early November."
