Besson Smith support to Morley March contest

A new 'Best Instrumentalist Award' with a difference sees Besson support the popular march and hymn tune contest in Morley.

The popular Morley March & Hymn Tune Contest has conformed that Besson has agreed to sponsor its 'Best Instrumentalist' award at this year's event.

It further adds to the generous prize pot which now exceeds over £2,000. One band will now also win the opportunity to engage Besson artist Tom Smith, principal cornet of Brighouse & Rastrick Band for a concert of their choice if they won the new award.

A spokesperson told 4BR: "This is a really great prize for one lucky band, and we are very grateful for the support from Besson for supporting the event in this way."

The adjudicator for the contest is the experienced Leigh Baker. The own-choice event is open to all bands from Youth to Championship Section. It will take place on Sunday 22nd June, kicking off at 12.30pm.

Time, place and details

It will comprise a road march along the pedestrianised Morley Queen Street, followed by the playing of a hymn tune and contest march in the band arena outside the Town Hall.
