Darwen appeal success for National Championships

The band's successful final appeal sees then head to Cheltenham later this year as North West Regional Champion.

Darwen Brass
The band will now represent the North West region as champions in Cheltenham.

Darwen Brass has successfully appealed its disqualification from 2025 Fourth Section North West Regional Championships.

The original decision was taken due to what was deemed the inclusion of an ineligible player. The band subsequently submitted an appeal to the North West Regional Championships Committee in accordance with the Appeals Procedure outlined in the National Rules. This initial appeal was unsuccessful.

National Appeals Panel

Darwen Brass then lodged a formal appeal with the National Championships.

A National Appeals Panel (comprising three Regional Secretaries with no direct affiliation to the North West region) was convened to consider the case. The Panel held an in-person hearing on Friday 2nd May, attended by both the National Appeals Panel and representatives from Darwen Brass.

After a thorough review, the Panel decided to uphold the band's appeal. The decision of the National Appeals Panel is final.

Cheltenham

As a result, Darwen Brass and Red Admiral Brass Academy will receive invitations to represent the North West region at the Section 4 National Final which will take place on Sunday 14th September at the The Centaur, Cheltenham Racecourse.

Darwen will now be officially reinstated in the prize list and will represent the region as North West champion.

Official invitations for the National Finals across all sections — including the Championship Section National Final 2025 — will be issued to qualifying bands via email today (Thursday 8 May).
