The Longridge Band recently celebrated its 193rd anniversary with a concert at its local Civic Hall.
Led by MD Mark Peacock, it was marked by the premiere of 'A Gaelic Lullaby' from 'Three Gaelic Sketches', written by the late Ernest Tomlinson MBE (1924-2015).
Acclaim
Ernest, who lived in Longridge, gained worldwide acclaim as a composer of orchestral light music.
He was also a patron of the band and followed them at rehearsals and concerts as well as allowing the band to record in his own studio. In addition he conducted the band on several occasions in rehearsals and concerts.
New arrangement
With the permission of the Tomlinson family, the band commissioned Dr. Daniel Price to make an arrangement of 'A Gaelic Lullaby' which will now be made available for bands to play themselves by a free download.
During the concert band member Andy Ellis received the Mike Cotter Award, whilst Anna Basynet-Steingold was presented with the Paul & Anne Byrne Shield. The event also featured the Longridge Youth Band
