Regent at Regent

Regent Brass continues its explorations of works old and new as part of the Regent Hall Brass Arts Festival later this month.

Regent Brass and MD Alan Duguid will continue their exploration of both old and new repertoire as part of the 2025 Regent Hall Brass Arts Festival.

It takes place at Regent Hall on Oxford Street in London on Friday 17th October (7.30pm) start where they will be joined by trombone soloist Brett Baker.

Light and dark

'Lux in Tenebris' will explore the 'light and dark' of repertoire and will include the premiere of Gavin Bryer's 'Jesus Blood Never Failed Me Yet', and a welcome reprise of Errollyn Wallen's 'Gold Saturday'.

The role of the Bollywood group will be taken by students from Haberdashers' Boys' School, which has a thriving Indian music scene — providing a great chance for a collaboration on a wonderful work.

There will also be a long overdue reprise of 'Strange Light' by Peter Yarde-Martin, an evocative major work for band which was first heard in 2017. It is hoped that all three composers will be present to hear their works.

Othello

With 2025 marking the 150th anniversary of the Black British composer Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, the programme will open with a transcription of the March from his 'Othello' suite.

In addition, there will he opportunity to mark the 50th anniversary of the death composer Sir Arthur Bliss with a performance of 'Checkmate'.

There will also be the opportunity to enjoy works by Dorothy Gates, Ray Steadman-Allen, Dan Price, Kelly-Marie Murphy and Gardell Simons.
