Tredegar's Brass Odyssey to be published

A major contemporary work by composer Robin Stevens is set to be published following the Welsh champion's new recording.

Tredegar
The works are being published by Bandmaster Publications

Bandmaster Publications has confirmed the forthcoming publication of the collection of original contemporary brass band works featured on Tredegar Band's latest recording, 'Brass Odyssey'.

The Welsh champion's recording on the World of Sound label showcases the music of critically acclaimed composer Robin Stevens.

Major work, solo and duets

It will include the epically proportioned title track, as well as solo and duet features, including the world premiere of two tuba works performed by Les Neish entitled, 'The Warrior Awakes' and 'Supplication'. There is also a remarkable unaccompanied cornet solo 'Rondo Alla Beserker' performed by Dewi Griffiths.

Robin Stevens was born in Newport with his extensive catalogue of orchestral and ensemble works recorded on the Divine Art label.

Brass Odyssey

'Brass Odyssey for Brass Band and Percussion' is a 23-minute work divided into two parts. The opening 'Elegy' is mystical in character, whilst 'Towards Rejoicing' is a celebration of life based on a series of dance episodes — the music building to a triumphant climax of ascent.

Ambitious in scope (it is written to feature 8 percussion), it is given its world premiere recording.

"We are incredibly proud to publish this remarkable series of works,"Matthew Ruel of Bandmaster told 4BR. "His music combines structural integrity, emotional honesty and a rare originality of voice — qualities that will enrich the modern brass band repertoire for years to come."
