The band has welcomed their new MD and a trio of signings

Chinnor Silver Band has announced the appointment of a new MD as they look forward to their appearance at the London & Southern Counties Area Championships in March.

The First Section contenders welcome the experienced Chris Andrews to the role following the departure of Ollie Hallstead-Brooks, who led them to a brace of National Final appearances in 2023 and 2025, securing First Section promotion in the process.

Step up

Chris steps up from the principal cornet chair, as well as being Deputy Musical Director and leader of the successful training group ensemble in recent years.

Speaking about his new role he said: "I'm really proud to be leading the band on their journey into the First Section and excited for everything we have planned for 2026."

New signings

It will be the first time the band has competed at First Section level at the Area Championships, and they will do so with the addition of a trio of new players in the ranks — Sarah Potts (solo horn), Martyn Potts (bass trombone), and Guy Button (Eb bass).

A band spokesperson added: "We take the opportunity to extend our heartfelt thanks to Ollie for his outstanding leadership and achievements and wish him every success in his future musical endeavours.

Now, with fresh leadership, new talent, and ambitious goals, 2026 promises to be an extraordinary year for us."
