The Yorkshire Youth Band is looking forward to making its appearance at the RNCM International Brass Band Festival in Manchester this weekend after completing its final rehearsal under the baton of MD, Richard Marshall.
Flugel solo
The band will perform at the RNCM Theatre on Sunday afternoon (1.30pm) with a programme that sees them feature flugel soloist Phoebe Mallinson of the Black Dyke Band, a former member of the band.
She will perform the 'Concertino for flugel horn' by William Himes, whilst the band will showcase 'Concert Prelude' by Philip Sparke, alongside 'When One Sees Light' by Mia Lee, 'Dance Like David' by Andrew Mackereth and James Curnow's 'Legends in Brass' to close.
So excited
Speaking about the upcoming performance, Richard Marshall told 4BR: "Even the slippery, snowy conditions couldn't keep the young members of the YYBB away from our final rehearsal day, and everyone is so excited about playing at the festival on the weekend.
It's going to be such a special performance, as the whole YYBB family celebrate our 20th Anniversary.
Special prize
For one band member the final rehearsal also saw them gain a special accolade — as Henry Sawyer, who won the band's 'Player of the Day' award was invited to join Black Dyke Band in a rehearsal at their famous Queensbury headquarters.
The band would like to thank Oldroyd Musical Instruments and CEO Tim Oldroyd for their continued support for what promises to be a memorable weekend.
