It is not only trombone virtuoso Peter Moore who has gained recognition for his achievements by being shortlisted for a prestigious Royal Philharmonic Award.

The brass band world will be delighted to see Sean Chandler and the Shepherd Group Brass nominated for the RPS 'Inspiration Award' which recognises the achievements of non-professional self-run ensembles.
The award is voted on by the general public — voting for which is now open and closes on Monday 2nd February.

The North of England organisation which caters for the musical ambitions of over 170 players of all ages and abilities is driven by Sean and the 'I Can Play with Brass Roots' initiative in partnership with the National Centre for Early Music in York, that welcomes and supports d/Deaf children and their families to develop their skills on a range of brass instruments and play music in a band environment.

Also, others with brass banding connections included in other categories are conductor John Wilson, Artistic Director of the Sinfonia of London, Kent's JAM on the Marsh Festival, which has actively sought to promote brass compositional talent, and trumpet player Matilda Lloyd.
The RPS Awards is hosted by BBC Radio 3 presenters Georgia Mann and Petroc Trelawny. The event will be filmed to watch on the RPS website from Thursday 19th March, and BBC Radio 3 presents a special broadcast featuring music of the winners and nominees at 7.30pm on Friday 13th March.
