Jamie Smith will head to Japan this Easter

Grimethorpe Colliery Band principal cornet Jamie Smith will soon head to the Far East for a concert and teaching tour of Japan.

The Geneva Musical Instruments and Mercer & Barker performance artist will travel at Easter. He will perform with Saitama Premier Brass (12th April), followed by Sapporo Otani University (8th April), Otofuke Brass (11th April) and Hanahata- Nishi Primary School.

The events have been organised by his friends, Makoto Sekiya and Osamu Nishida and will see Jamie showcase the Martin Ellerby 'Cornet Concerto' alongside other solo works.

Looking forward

Speaking to 4BR, the RNCM Honorary Associate Artist and MD of BD1 Brass said: "I am really looking forward to what will be my fifth visit to Japan.

Not only is it a remarkable country, but it has such a fantastic appetite and love for brass bands. Every time I have visited I've made new friends, so this is why I can't wait to start the tour and especially the solo performances and masterclasses.

My heartfelt thanks go to Osamu and Makoto, both who have been instrumental in organising the tour."
