Cory Band has announced that the talented young soprano cornet player, Carys Wood will perform with them in their bid to regain the Welsh Regional title in Swansea next month.
The Royal Academy of Music student has become a regular performer with Cory over the past year or so, and recently made a huge impression with her contribution to their performance at the recent RNCM International Brass Band Festival.
Impressive
Her relationship with the band goes back to Cory's 'side-by-side' development scheme run in conjunction with the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, whilst she subsequently benefitted greatly from tuition and guidance from former Cory soprano stars Steve Stewart and Martin Britt.
The 18 year from Goodwick in Pembrokeshire already has an impressive CV of achievements — from the National Children's and the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain.
She is currently the principal trumpet of the National Youth Orchestra of Great Britain and has also played with the South Wales Youth Band and has accumulated numerous solo awards. Carys was a finalist in BBC Young Musician of the Year 2024 and has performed with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales.
Tremendous
In welcoming her to the band, MD Philip Harper told 4BR: "At our recent appearance at the RNCM Festival, Carys certainly made a tremendous impression.
Her performance came as no surprise as we've witnessed her development over the past year. It's fantastic to welcome her for such an important competition."
Really excited
In response, Carys said: "I'm really excited to gain such an amazing opportunity. It's been one of my biggest dreams for a long time and a fantastic experience for me.
Philip and everyone at Cory have made me feel so welcome and supportive in my development, and I'm delighted to be continuing my relationship with the band."
