No relegation for Norwegian non payers

There will be no relegation to the Fifth Division for the bands who didn't pay their membership fees on time this year — but it is not a precedent for the future.

Greig Hall
  The decision has been welcomed.

There will be no relegation to the Fifth Division of the Norwegian National Championships for any of the 11 bands that did not pay their annual membership and insurance fee to the Norwegian Music Federation on time this year.

As reported on 4BR, the potential for the sanction arose after it was revealed that a number, including at least one Elite Division competitor and one other section prize winner, had failed to make the appropriate payment by the 15th February.

After being informed, the individual bands were invited to appeal against the decision, although 4BR understands a collective appeal was subsequently submitted.

Oversight

This was heard on 27th February, where it was found that although non-payment did occur, it was accepted that it was due to what was described as an "oversight in a hectic schedule" for the bands prior to the Norwegian National Championships held in Bergen the previous weekend.

In a decision welcomed by those involved, it was stated however that it was hoped that bands would not allow this to happen again, and that this outcome did not set a precedent for future non-payment.

All paid

It was confirmed that all bands had now paid the appropriate fee (approx. 25,000 Krone) and that the Appeal process to issue both reminders and notification of relegation were in accordance with guidelines.

Following the news, one banding observer told 4BR: "I think everyone welcomes the decision and respects the reasons for the outcome.

This was a warning though to be fully aware of the rules and to be professional in meeting them on time in future."
