Few pieces come with a story quite as personal as 'The Grand Union Waltz' by Dr Liz Lane.

Written as a wedding present for friends in Lydbrook Band, it celebrates their shared love of narrow-boating, taking inspiration from the Grand Union Canal.

Gentle character

The composer began with just a handful of notes chosen by the couple themselves before developing through countless sketches and revisions to end up with the finished work; warm, flowing and instantly appealing as concert item that perfectly captures the gentle character of Britain's waterways.

Since publication it has been performed by bands at all levels, including a massed band performances in Japan.
