Although the death of actor Dame Penelope Keith has been met with tributes by the television, film and stage community, it was also noted that the 'Good Life' and 'To the Manor Born' star also had a close connection to the banding world with her association with Godalming Band.

Cherished

Reflecting on her passing, the band stated: "Dame Penelope Keith had a long and cherished association with us, and was a tremendous supporter of our organisation over many years.

Her warmth, professionalism and unmistakable presence graced so many of our most significant occasions, where she was often our first choice as narrator or Master of Ceremonies."

Into the Ark

The band stated that amongst many highlights was her involvement in John Golland's 'Into the Ark', a work specially written for band and narrator, which the band stated Dame Penelope, "brought to life with her exceptional talent and eloquence".

In offering their sympathies to her family, they also paid tribute to her "enthusiasm for music and the arts will be remembered with great affection by all who had the privilege of working with her. She was not only a distinguished actress and public figure but also a valued friend of Godalming Band."
