The Enderby Band has announced the appointment of Jack Capstaff as their new conductor as part of what it states is, "a new focus and direction in musical leadership."

Departure

It follows the departure of MD Gareth Westwood, who led the band to a top-six finish at the Midlands Area Championship Section contest earlier this year as well as maintaining their place at the Senior Cup in May.

The band stated: "We would like to thank Gareth for his time and effort towards the band's development and wishes him well for the future."

It was confirmed that Jack Capstaff will work with the band through its autumn 2026 programme of concerts and contests alongside his commitments with Derwent Brass and ongoing musical schedule with orchestral and choral organisations and as an adjudicator.

Speaking about the appointment, Band Chairperson Vikki Oates told 4BR: "We are focussed on strengthening our position in the Midlands Championship Section, and to do so we strive for development at pace whilst providing a rewarding bandroom experience for our committed players.

We are delighted to once again be working with Jack who will lead us through the remainder of 2026."

The band stated that it will shortly confirm who lead the band at the 2027 Midlands Regional Championships and British Open Senior Cup contest.
