There's certainly nothing restrained about Philip Harper's arrangement of Extreme's 'It ('s a Monster)'.
Taken from Extreme's 1990 album 'Pornograffitti', the original's mix of hard rock and funk proves particularly well suited to brass. It's a brilliant sound world with a driving drum kit underpinning the beat and rasping trombones adding plenty of bite.
Memorable riff
At its heart is that insistent, instantly memorable riff, passed around the band and surrounded by punchy interjections. It's rock band writ large, but with the sheer weight and power that will get an audience rocking too.
It's demanding, but for an ambitious band looking for something a little different to play, It ('s a Monster) has all the ingredients of a terrific entertainment or concert item.
Loud, energetic and unapologetically good fun, this is one to play with the volume turned up.
