Professor Trevor Herbert will discuss his latest book, 'The Brass Band Story' at the 'Off the Shelf — Festival of Words' in Sheffield later this month.

Hosted by interviewer Trisha Cooper, it will take place at the Showroom Cinema on Paternoster Row in Sheffield (S1 2BX) on Saturday 10th October at 2.00pm with tickets costing £12/£10.

Critical acclaim

The book has already gained wide ranging critical acclaim, from reviews in the banding press to the likes of The Daily Telegraph, whose Chief Music Critic Ivan Hewett praised its analysis of the true rather than cliched image of banding history.

Prof Herbert will discuss the book and issues and questions that arise from it — from its unique role in the cultural history of Britain and height of popularity in the late Victorian era to the modern era.
