Composer, euphonium and baritone player Naomi Rebecca Hill from West Yorkshire won Foden's Band 'Female Composer Competition' in 2023 as well as the UniBrass Composition Competition in 2024.
People may already know her music through the wonderful composition, 'Calling', which is also available through Wright & Round.
Euphonium solo
'Melita' is an evocative euphonium solo inspired by the much-loved hymn tune 'Melita' and its prayer for those in peril on the sea.
It led Naomi to write 'O Hear Us' for soloist Jacob Hickson and the University of Huddersfield Brass Band's 2024 UniBrass programme, with Jacob receiving the 'Best Soloist' award for his performance.
Hymn melody
Combining the familiar hymn melody with original material, the music moves from an unsettled opening to the gentle reassurance of the euphonium's voice, building towards a powerful climax before an atmospheric close. This expressive concert feature offers both tenderness and dramatic impact.
