Bates books in at YBS

YBS has been busy and has snapped up a top class soprano player in the shape of Gary Bates.

YBS

The YBS band has announced the signing of Gary Bates on soprano cornet.

Gary joined the band during the Christmas period after guesting at the band’s final Christmas engagement, and was immediately offered the permanent position.

It was felt that the band needed a powerful player of the highest calibre to add to the band’s sound, and Gary fitted that description perfectlyMD Morgan Griffiths

Powerful player

Musical director Morgan Griffiths commented to 4BR: "It was felt that the band needed a powerful player of the highest calibre to add to the band’s sound, and Gary fitted that description perfectly.

This, and the several other quality signings the band has made recently, will ensure that the band can build on the successes over the last six months, after what was a very difficult start to 2007. The future is now looking very rosy indeed."

Gary formerly held the soprano cornet position at Sellers International Band, and has played with most of the country’s top bands during his career.

New facilities

The band have also acquired new purpose-built rehearsal premises over the Christmas and New Year period, and recently spent a happy (but messy!) weekend transforming them into a perfect home for the band.

You can find out more on the band's website at www.ybsband.org.uk, as pictures of the new bandroom will be appearing very shortly!

Thanks

The YBS Band would also like to thank former soprano cornetist Claire Taylor for her sterling efforts throughout her tenure with the band, and wishes her best of luck for her future endeavours.
