Grimey poll

The reigning English and British National Champion, Grimethorpe Colliery Band, has been chosen as the centre band at the European Brass Band Championships (EBBC) Gala Concert in Stavanger on 3rd May.

Break from tradition

In a break from tradition, brass enthusiasts around the world are being invited to decide, via an Internet poll, the band’s programme in the first half of the concert, which will be from the ‘Golden Age’ of the brass band repertoire.

How to vote

Votes can be registered at www.musikkorps.no/gala and the final programme will be put together after the poll has closed on 1 February.

Categories

Four categories can be voted upon, these are: Major/Classical pieces, Epic Symphony, Solo, Marches and Light music.

Grimethorpe will be conducted by Allan Withington, the band’s Musical Director and six-time winner of the National Championships.

Different halves

The programme for the second half will be completely different in nature and will be announced in due course.

It is, however, certain that the European Capital of Culture, Stavanger 2008, will sponsor the appearance of an international soloist at the concert.
