YBS Band has confirmed the appointment of Morgan Griffiths as its Musical Director.

Morgan's long experience in banding includes service with Hammonds(the forerunner to YBS itself) and Black Dyke before before returning to join YBS in 1992 where he held the position of principal euphonium.

During his time at YBS he became one of the most successful euphonium players of his generation with seven European Championship wins, three British Open, three All England Masters and an English Nationals win.

He has drive and enthusiasm coupled with musical excellence and under his leadership there is a sense of enjoyment and teamwork which I'm certain will lead to future successesYBS Chairman John Myles

Honours

Along with this were several area championships, soloist awards at Brass in Concert Championship, whilst he was voted the 4Barsrest 'Player of the Year' in 2002. In 1999 Morgan was awarded the
much coveted title of 'Euphonium Player of the Year' and recorded his
first solo CD titled 'The Voice of the Euphonium'.

Since the departure from YBS of Professor David King in early 2007, Morgan has filled the vacant spot as Resident Conductor.

Delight

In making the announcement YBS Chairman John Myles said he was delighted that Morgan had accepted the appointment. "I have known and admired Morgan for many years as one of the world's greatest euphonium players and I'm delighted that he has now been confirmed as Musical Director at YBS Band. He has drive and enthusiasm coupled with musical excellence and under his leadership there is a sense of enjoyment and teamwork which I'm certain will lead to future successes.".

Thanks Dicky

Myles also paid tribute to Richard Evans who held the temporary role of Principal Conductor at YBS during 2007. "The Band is deeply
grateful to Richard for his input throughout 2007. His professionalism, good humour and patience were key factors in helping YBS achieve contest successes during this time."
