Time to vote

The Brass Bands Association of New Zealand is offering the chance for you to vote for the person you want to compete in this years Invitational Slow Melody.

The search is on again to find the musician who will win the right, via public vote, to perform in the prestige Invitation Slow Melody event at the New Zealand Brass Band Championships — Festival of Brass in July this year.

This years seven nominees selected by the public are:

Steven Booth, Baritone, The 'Trusts' Waitakere Brass
Colin Clark, Soprano Cornet, Woolston Brass
Ashley Gittins, Euphonium, Brisbane Excelsior
Andrew Large, Cornet, Dalewool Auckland Brass
David Maas, Bb Cornet, Brass Wanganui
Dean Morley, BBb Tuba, Brisbane Excelsior
Graham Moseley, Bb cornet, Marlborough District Brass Band

Automatic entry into the event has been accepted by last years winner Riki McDonnell and by the holding of the current Champion of Champions title Phillip Johnston.

Runner up in the 2007 ISM event Trevor Bremner has declined his automatic entry as he has retired from all solo playing.

Voting closes 18 April

The highest polling player at the close of voting at midnight, Friday 18 April, will be offered a place in the 2008 Invitation Slow Melody event.

Venues and dates for 2027 & 2028 Spring Festival announced

July 1 • Town Hall Birmingham and the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire will host the 2027 and 2028 British Open Spring Festival contests as long term plans are put in place following feedback.
