New MD at Royston

Steve Earley has been appointed the new MD at Royston Town.

Royston Town Band has announced the appointment of Steve Earley as their new Musical Director.

This appointment follows the departure of Simon Jones as MD after the 2008 Areas due to work and other commitments. Simon conducted the band for over two years during which time the overall standard of the band improved greatly.

The band stated to 4BR that they wanted to thank Simon for his hard work and offer him best wishes for the future. The band are very much looking forward to working with Steve and gaining from his knowledge and experience.

It is hoped that Royston Town Band will have similar success with Steve and the band are positive that an exciting future lies ahead4BR

25 years of experience

Steve has been involved with brass music for nearly 25 years, having started playing the tuba and trombone at school. A graduate of Manchester University, where he had tuba lessons from Andrew Duncan, Steve has played with a number of Championship Section bands including Regent Brass, Redbridge Brass, Virtuois (GUS) and Raunds Temperance.

He currently leads the bass section of Milton Keynes Brass and plays with the Leaside Brass Quintet.

Paul Skerry from the band told 4BR: “As a conductor Steve has worked with many bands, notably East London Brass who gained promotion to the 2nd Section under his direction. It is hoped that Royston Town Band will have similar success with Steve and the band are positive that an exciting future lies ahead.”
