The YBS Band has announced that they have undertaken the commission of a new work for the Brass in Concert Championships at the Sage, Gateshead this November.

The new work is from the band's 'Composer in Residence', Benjamin Tubb.

Exciting talent

YBS Musical Director Morgan Griffiths told 4BR: "YBS Band has always believed in being at the forefront of developing new music for Brass bands and encouraging young composers. Benjamin is an exciting talent and we are thrilled to have him working with the Band."

New music all the way

YBS are currently making their preparations for the forthcoming British Open in September.

Following new works at both the International Masters and English Nationals, the British Open will see the band undertake the third new set work of 2008.

Morgan Griffiths added: "It has been a fabulous year so far for new test pieces and Edward Gregson’s 'Roccoco Variations' is another fantastic new work that will certainly challenge all the bands at the British Open and I’m sure the audience will enjoy listening to it immensely."
