XLCR kicked out

Brisbane Excelsior has been forced out of its home — all in the name of progress.

Windsor School of Arts

Brisbane Excelsior and Windsor Brass have had their Heritage listed home, The Windsor School of Arts, resumed by the Department of Main Roads, to make way for a new road system.

The band were required to vacate the premises by 30 September due to the commencement of construction of the Northern Busway.

President Rick Casagrande, in negotiation with the State Government has been able to secure a temporary home for the band in the inner city suburb of Coorparoo. The building it will occupy, initially for 12 months, was recently vacated by a bank.

Negotiations with the Brisbane City Council concerning the future of the Windsor School of Arts building are also continuing.

Brisbane Excelsior has filed a compensation claim with the Department of Main Roads, a process which is not expected to settle in the near future.

Brisbane Brass is also effected by the Northern Busway, and is currently undergoing the resumption process with the Department.

Members of the bands have been busy packing boxes of trophies, music and instruments, and officially moved out of The Windsor School of Arts last week.

The bands first rehearsal in its new home will be tomorrow night, at 295 Old Cleveland Road, Coorparoo.
