2009 RNCM Festival of Brass

Organisers announce details of 2009 event — with a focus on the great Gilbert Vinter at its musical core.

The RNCM Festival of Brass has announced that the 2009 event, which takes place from the 30th January to 1st February next year will lead with an anniversary tribute to composer Gilbert Vinter, whose innovative works for brass bands in the 1960s changed the course of brass banding.

Birthday celebrations

The Festival will also celebrate Philip Wilby and John McCabe turning 60 and 70 respecitively.

Six of the UK’s top brass bands will play including Black Dyke, Leyland, Foden, Fairey, Desford Colliery and Brighouse & Rastrick.

Premieres

Thier programmes will include eight première performances, including a trumpet concerto by Peter Meechan with Rex Richardson, a euphonium concerto by Peter Graham with David Thornton, and a concerto commissioned for baritone from Martin Ellerby performed by Katrina Marzella.

Masterclass

In addition, there are talks, recitals by David Thornton and Richard Marshall, a masterclass with Rex Richardson and a chance to check out the UK’s leading brass retailers and instrument makers.

North Somerset Community Brass

March 13 • Cornet and bass players required. We are a fun and relaxed non contesting band and are looking to swell our numbers. Players of any instrument will be very warmly welcomed, but we would really love some more cornets and basses (instruments available).
