Wales goes Open

The South Wales Miners Eisteddfod will now be called the Welsh Open — and open it is too, to bands from both sides of the Severn Bridge.

The South Wales Miners Eisteddfod Entertainment Contest has had a change of name.

Further interest

From 2009 the contest will be known as the Welsh Open Entertainment Championship. The organisers hope the new title will encourage further interest in what has become one of the most popular brass band contests in the Principality. This year's event takes place at the Porthcawl Pavillion on Saturday 21st February.

Entries for 2009 close on January 24th, and at this moment there are still a couple of vacancies to be filledorganisers

£1,000 top prize

As usual there will be a first prize £1,000, with the contest open to bands graded Championship and First Section — from anywhere in the banding world! There will also be a prize for the highest First Section band not in the prizes.

Closing date

Entries for 2009 close on January 24th, and at this moment there are still a couple of vacancies to be filled.
