Reg Vardy promote youth stars

Two stars of the future set to be showcased by North of England champions.

Reg Vardy

The Reg Vardy Band is setting its sights on the future this weekend by helping to showcase two youthful red hot musical talents.

Local lasses Kate Malcolm (13) and Hayley O’Connelley (14) will be featured soloists with the band at two concerts, whilst the band itself helps other young players of the future by providing a brass workshop.

No stranger

Kate, whom plays cornet with The Felling Band is no stranger to the Reg Vardy ranks, having performed at Brass In Concert last year, winning the youngest player award in the process. She told 4BR: "I am so proud to have been asked to feature as a soloist with the band."

Hayley meanwhile plays trombone for GT Group Peterlee Band and added: "I am a bit nervous but I am really looking forward to it."

Proud

Reg Vardy MD Stephen Malcolm (and proud father of Kate) told 4BR: "What better way to inspire the young players in the workshop band, than to see young people performing alongside the band and our soloists? I am particularly proud to give these two rising stars this opportunity."
