Smithills duo set for Kerkrade

Smithills School will be sending two bands to the World Music Championships in Kerkrade later this year.

Smithills School and MD Chris Wormald have received official confirmation from the World Music Contest in Kerkrade that both their Senior Brass Band and Senior Symphonic Wind Band have been accepted to participate in the event on separate weekends this July.

Gold medals

The Senior Brass Band has won Gold Medals on each of its three appearances in Kerkrade (1997, 2001 and 2005 respectively) and this Summer will defend its Third Division World title.

Both Smithills bands heading for Kerkrade are the current, National Festival of Music For Youth defending champions4BR

Set works

The band will perform the set test piece 'Lake of The Moon' by Kevin Houben followed by an own choice test piece on July 11th, whilst two weeks later their Senior Symphonic Wind Band will perform the set test piece 'Invocation And Toccata' by James Barnes followed by an own choice test piece on July 25th.

Both Smithills bands heading for Kerkrade are the current, National Festival of Music For Youth defending champions.
