Youth Adjudication Panel

4BR and British Bandsman have teamed up once again to try and find the new generation of budding adjudicators.

Once again 4BR and British Bandsman are teaming up to try and find the new generation of 21st century brass band adjudicators, with its Youth Adjudication Panel.

Four volunteers

We are looking for four volunteers aged 16 or under to come along to the Yorkshire Regional Championships on Sunday 8th March and judge the performances of ‘New World Sketches’ by Dan Price in the Second Section.

Composer delight

Dan himself is hoping to be there to pass on a few tips about his piece: "I think this is a great idea and I’m delighted to be part of it. I’m sure the youngsters will have plenty of fun, and I hope they enjoy my music."

We consider this panel an opportunity for youth to widen their experience and hopefully continue their interest into adulthood and thereby continue their involvement in our movementPeggy Tomlinson

Meet the judges

The four lucky participants will get to meet the two official judges for the contest, Chris Wormald and Mal Brownbill who have agreed to pass on those all important tips of what to listen out for.

Chris told 4BR: "I’m delighted to be involved in the project. Last year’s was a tremendous success and I’m sure everyone will enjoy the experience this time around. Perhaps Malcolm and I will pick up a few tips in return!"

Continue initiative

Regional Secretary Peggy Tomlinson told 4BR: "After a most successful introduction of the Youth Adjudicating Panel at the 2008 Yorkshire Championships I am delighted that Iwan Fox of 4BR together with the British Bandsman have agreed to join with us to continue this initiative for the 2009 Yorkshire Regional contest."

Positive feedback

Peggy added: "We had very positive feedback after last year and I know that at least one of the participants has continued with his interest in adjudication. This is very encouraging and the Yorkshire Regional Committee is pleased and eager to support the involvement of youth in our event.

"We consider this panel an opportunity for youth to widen their experience and hopefully continue their interest into adulthood and thereby continue their involvement in our movement."

Press corps

Euphonium star Mark Bousie will also be on hand to offer his expert insights as the contest progresses. The four lucky youngsters will be perched up in the first tier of St George’s Hall with the rest of the hard bitten press corps and will have the opportunity to browse through their own scores and write their own remarks on specially prepared sheets from Peggy.

Deatils

On the day travel costs will be met in full, there is a buffet lunch to enjoy, parents and guardians are welcome and just as last year, the written remarks from each of the judges will be published in full – as well as their own results!
