Smithills extend record

Sweet sixteen for Smithills as they get set for record appearance at National Festival for Youth.

Smithills

Smithills School Senior Brass Band and MD Chris Wormald are to extended their record breaking run at the National Festival of Music For Youth, after being informed that they will make their 16th consecutive appearance at the finals this July.

Outstanding

The band has already won 9 'Outstanding Performance' awards, including last year, whilst the Senior Brass Band will be followed a day later by the school’s Senior Concert Band which Chris will direct in its twelfth National Festival appearance.

The Concert Band also hopes to repeat last year’s 'Outstanding Performance Award' at Birmingham's Symphony Hall on July 10th.

Direct from the Festival, Smithills brass band members will travel directly to Kerkrade where they will perform less than 24 hours later at their fourth consecutive World Music Contest4BR

Kerkrade

Direct from the Festival, Smithills brass band members will travel directly to Kerkrade where they will perform less than 24 hours later at their fourth consecutive World Music Contest. Smithills are the defending Third Section Champions, an honour they won in 2005.

Busy time

Two weeks later, the Senior Concert Band will also travel out to Kerkrade to compete in the Wind Band section of the event.

A busy time then for everyone concerned — from players to staff led by Kevin Gibbs.
