Lostock duo top Thomas to get to Cheltenham

Lostock Hall Memorial Band MD Joshua Hughes and tuba player Glen Tomlinson will need to recover from some saddle sores after their epic cycle ride fundraiser to get their band to Cheltenham.

The duo finally made it to Cheltenham after their epic trip

It seems that anything Tour de France winner Geraint Thomas can do, Lostock Hall Memorial Band MD Joshua Hughes and tuba player Glen Tomlinson can just about better.

The duo recently set off from the rehersal room in Lancashire to cycle the 189 miles to Cheltenham Racecourse where next month the band will compete at the Fourth Section National Final.

On the road

And although Josh only took to the saddle for the first time in early June as part of his training, he took to the road with enthusiasm — with their first day seeing the duo head past the Dream Sculpture in St Helens all the way to Chester Cathedral.

Despite the odd moment of tarmac trouble, day two saw the peloton head from Whitchurch towards Telford, fuelled by fish and chips at the foot of the iconic Ironbridge Gorge.

The final day saw the triumphant entry to Cheltenham via a quick stop off at Worcestershire Cathedral. They reached the racecourse bang on 6.00pm.

Everyone at Lostock Hall is really proud of Josh and Glen. Together they have raised over £1,200 which will go towards funding the band's trip to the National FinalsLostock Hall Memorial Band

Proud

A band spokesperson told 4BR: "Everyone at Lostock Hall is really proud of Josh and Glen. Together they have raised over £1,200 which will go towards funding the band's trip to the National Finals. Amazingly, both lads said they would do it all again."
