Robbert Vos has been appointed the new Musical Director of Brass Band Schoonhoven.

He will work alongside professional conductor Ivan Meylemans as the former Dutch National Champion seeks to bring together a solid leadership foundation on which to build for the future following the departure of the respected Guy Audenaert six months ago.

Greatest respect

Band spokesperson Leon Monteny told 4BR: "Ivan's busy professional conducting schedule means that the band needs to be able to build a solid conducting partnership. Everyone has the greatest respect for Robbert both as a player and as a conductor."

Vos has held the role of solo euphonium with the band for the past 11 years, building a reputation as one of Europe's foremost top flight performers, whilst his conducting career has also flourished.

He led the Schoonhoven B Band to the Dutch Second Division National titles in 2013 and 2015 and the Dutch Open in 2016, as was assistant conductor of the senior band during the Erik Janssen years.

Long term development

Leon Monteny added: "Robbert's main responsibility is aimed at the long-term development of the band as well as conduct at events that Ivan cannot undertake. He will remain as solo euphonium at all major concerts and contests where Ivan will lead.

This appointment opens another exiting chapter for the band and we look forward to a successful collaboration with this conducting team for many years to come."
