Dutch to honour Polish heroes

Altena Brass will honour the bravery and sacrifice of a Second World War Polish Parachute Regiment as part of their 20th anniversary celebrations later this month.

  Altena Brass is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year

Altena Brass from The Netherlands will be celebrating its 20th anniversary later this month with a special Easter Jubilee Concert alongside guest artist Tim Ouwejan.

Led by guest conductor Michael Engelbrecht the Championship Section band will perform works by Peter Graham, Martin Ellerby, Philip Sparke, Gregorio Allegri, Richard Strauss on Saturday April 20th in the of Hank, including two world premieres of works by their Composer in Residence, Joop van Dijk.

Market Garden

Band Secretary Wilma Wijgers told 4BR: "'The Sosabowski Men' is a spectacular concert march dedicated to the Second World War Polish General Sosabowski and his 1st Independent Polish Parachute Brigade, who fought bravely during Operation 'Market Garden' at the Rhine in September 1944.

The second is written for the band's talented solo trombone player, Tim Ouwejan who studies at the Amsterdam Conservatorium and who will perform 'Parade — Concerto for Trombone and Brass Band'."

Altena Brass has invited all former band members to the event, with two founder members performing with the band at the concert.

Tintwistle Band
