More about Duncan

Diary Service (MAS): 01306 500022

Duncan Wilson started playing in brass bands at an early age and entered the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in 1993 where he studied with Eric Crees, Simon Wills and Brian Raby. After graduating in 1997, Duncan embarked on a career as a professional trombonist, firstly with the newly formed Mahler Chamber Orchestra, then as a freelance player.

Despite being busy with many and varied work commitments, Duncan has kept in contact with brass bands, having played with Soham Comrades and The Virtuosi GUS Band and conducted Somersham Town band and Soham. Duncan was also the winner of the trombone prize at the 2004 and 2005 British Open Solo Championship.

Duncan now works as a freelance player with most orchestras in the UK and also specialises in orchestral bass trumpet and euphonium. As a session player he has appeared on recordings with Sarah Brightman, Hayley Westenra, Ravi Shankar and many others.

In January 2008 Duncan was invited to become resident conductor at City of Cambridge band and in November 2008 he was invited to be the band’s Musical Director. He has appeared as guest conductor with many brass bands and has also conducted the City of London Sinfonia.
