More about Christopher

Christopher was described by Eminence Brass as ‘one of his generation’s most exciting compositional voices for brass’ with his success in brass writing accomplished by working with the top musicians in the country.

Associate Composer to the world-famous Cory Band, commissions have included Owen Farr, Tom Hutchinson, Brett Baker, Stephen Sykes, and Eminence Brass Quartet as well as performances by the Fine Arts Brass Ensemble, Welsh Sinfonia, Black Dyke, Grimethorpe & Cory Bands.

A first-class graduate of the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, his work has been performed extensively throughout the United Kingdom, including at Wales Millennium Centre, Durham International Festival of Brass, RNCM Festival of Brass, Brass in Concert, Regent Hall London, St John’s Smith Square, as well as at the BBC Welsh Proms at St David’s Hall, Cardiff, and radio broadcasts both locally and nationally on BBC Radio 2.

In addition to this, performances of his work have been given on four continents including in Australia, the USA, Taiwan & Japan.

In June 2012, Christopher’s award-winning Euphonium Quartet Equinox graced the main stage of the Bruknerhaus Concert Hall, Linz, Austria as part of a gala concert to conclude the 2012 International Tuba Euphonium Conference.

In the same year, The Royal Diamond Jubilee Fanfare was commissioned by the Greater Gwent Music Support Service and was performed in the presence of HM Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh as part of the Diamond Jubilee Tour.

Originally from Cornwall, Christopher’s first string quartet was premiered publically at the age of twelve, although his first commission came at sixteen, when he won a competition to write a fanfare for the Cornwall Youth Brass Band to open their fifty-year course anniversary concert.

More recently, Christopher wrote the soundtrack for Magic in the Skies; the summer season of firework displays at iconic British location, Land’s End in Cornwall, for which Christopher worked with actress Miriam Margolyes to record the voice-over before conducting the orchestra in the recording of the music.

Christopher co-owns Create!, a music education company, as well as holding down his role as music teacher at Forte School of Music and St John’s on-the-hill Prep School in Chepstow.

He works as a cover tutor at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama Junior Department, and holds down the role of resident conductor with Tongwynlais Temperance Band. Christopher maintains a busy composing schedule, publishing his own music.
