World Rankings: May Update

Black Dyke close the gap at the top whilst Brass Band Willebroek force their way back in to the top ten.

The latest World of Brass—4barsrest.com show significant movement throughout following recent contests around the banding world. Most notable, although there is no change of position at the very top, was Black Dyke’s victory at the European Championships, which takes it to within 150 points of Cory’s total, so it’s all to play for in the big autumn contests in Birmingham and London.

The three bands immediately below ‘Dyke’ in Freiburg — Brass Band Willebroek, Burgermusik Luzern and Eikanger-Bjørsvik — all move back into the top ten, while Wellington’s victory at the Australian National takes the New Zealand band back into the top 50.

The other ranking contests taking place since the last update were:

Senior Trophy — won by Rainford
Irish Championship — won by Lourdes Brass Band;
Buxton Festival — won by Bollington;
Northern Ireland Brass Band League — won by Downshire Brass.

The next update will include next weekend’s All-England Masters International and a brace of entertainment contests in Scotland during June at Troon and West Lothian.

Friary Guildford

Result: 2018 London & Southern Counties Regional Championship: Championship Section

March 18 • Frairy Guildford make it four wins in a row as they retain their top-flight title and are joined at the Albert Hall by Thundersley.

March 18 • Bradwell Silver strikes gold to take Fourth Section title and head to Cheltenham alongside Regent Community Brass and Great Yarmouth Brass.

March 18 • NASUWT Riverside makes it a North of England Area double as they head back to the Albert Hall as champions again with Reg Vardy in tow.

March 18 • Cory delivers an emotional Odyssey that takes them to London and to Montreux in Swansea. Tredegar comes runner-up, with Tongwynlais and City of Cardiff (Melingriffith) also booking their places in Kensington.

March 18 • Our third section B Band are looking for Cornet and Trombone players. Rehearsals Friday's 7.00 - 8.15pm and Sunday mornings 10.00 - 12.15pm Based at Bailiff Bridge Brighouse. Our Saturday morning training band is also looking for players. All abilities.

Clifton and Lightcliffe Band
