Malcolm no longer in the middle

Steve Malcolm departs as a resident of Reg Vardy after 12 years at the helm.

4BR has been informed that Reg Vardy Band and their resident conductor of the last 12 years, Steve Malcolm have parted company.

25 years

Steve has been a member of the band's bass section for the last 25 years, with 12 of those years also holding down the resident conductor job.

4BR understands that at the end of this Summer's concert season Steve resigned from the band in order to concentrate on other conducting commitments.

The last few years have been great for me, as Reg Vardy is a terrific band to conduct. However, I wanted the chance to conduct more contests and concerts with other bands...Steve Malcolm

Terrific

Steve told 4BR: "The last few years have been great for me, as Reg Vardy is a terrific band to conduct. However, I wanted the chance to conduct more contests and concerts with other bands and unfortunately that’s difficult to do when you have a major commitment at least twice every week."

Set to go

He added: "Everything at the band is set to go for the second half of the year and I thought if there was ever a time to move on, then this was it. I leave behind some great friends and many happy memories."

Steve will continue to conduct the GT Group Peterlee Band and has committed to some guest bass playing later in the year.
