West is best!

The West of England is the new powerhouse of lower section banding after their fine return at Harrogate on the weekend.

HARROGATE

The bands that qualified from the West of England proved to be the most successful at Harrogate at the weekend.

Victories

Those who won through at Torquay in March headed back home from the International Conference Centre armed with two victories, one third and one sixth place for their efforts.

Brunel Brass and St Breward celebrated National titles, whilst there was a podium finish for Camborne B and a mention off the stage for Poole Borough.

Close behind

Close behind came Wales, also with two victories for Tongwynlais and City of Cardiff and a sixth place for Royal Buckley.

There was also encouragement for North East banding too, with two runner up spots for Barton Town and North Skelton.

At the bottom end of the Area success table though, the proud banding folk of Yorkshire will not be too pleased4BR

Not pleased

At the bottom end of the Area success table though, the proud banding folk of Yorkshire will not be too pleased with not a single podium finisher for the White Rose county bands. They had to be content with two fourth places and a sixth for their efforts.

The poorest return though came from North of the Border, where the Scottish representatives could only muster two fifth place finishes from their eight qualifiers.

Final Table:

1. West of England: 2 wins; 1 third; 1 sixth
2. Wales: 2 wins; 1 sixth
3. North East: 2 seconds
4. North West: 1 second; 1 third; 1 fourth, 1 sixth
5. Midlands: 1 second; 1 third; 1 fifth
6. London & Southern Counties: 1 third; 1 fourth; 1 fifth
7. Yorkshire: 2 fourths; 1 sixth
8. Scotland: 2 fifths
