EBBA to open up?

Could future European Championships be judged in the open? EBBA wants to find out if there is an appetite for it.

EBBA

4BR has been informed that the European Brass Band Championships are considering the option of open adjudication at future events.

Poll

EBBA is to conduct a poll amongst interested parties, and its findings will be discussed at the European Championship in Linz. The closing date for submissions is 1st February.

Opinions

EBBA President Ulf Rosenberg stated: "We have decided to contact all national delegates and their federations, adjudicators, competing bands and conductors at the Championships over the past three years, as well as those taking part in Linz, to seek opinions on the respective merits of both open and closed adjudication before we enter into any decision making process in the future."

The exercise will provide us with vital information when we open up the debate and consider the matter for future yearsEBBA President, Ulf Rosenberg

No Linz change

There will be no change to the closed process at Linz this year, and Ulf stressed that this was at present more a gathering of opinions rather than a statement of future intent.

Vital nformation

He added: "The exercise will provide us with vital information when we open up the debate and consider the matter for future years. It should be stressed that it is not a referendum, but merely a means of gathering opinions from bands and people who are stakeholders in the European Championships."
