Withington set for Summer School

Allan Withington will be heading to Leeuwarden in June to lead his Conductor's Summer School.

4BR has spoken to Allan Withington in Bergen about his forthcoming Conductor's Summer School.

Summer School

Allan is at the Grieghallen for the Norwegian National Championships and is taking Stavanger in the Elite Section on the weekend. However, he is also doing a bit of promotional work for the Summer School too, which will take place in Leeuwarden in Holland between the 27th and 2nd July.

Great success

"Last year's Summer School was a great success," he said. "We have worked hard in preparing for this year's event, which is being sponsored by Gobelmusic.com. I'm excited about the project and really looking forward to welcoming people to Leeuwarden once again."

The course will see Allan and delegates work with guest lecturer, the composer and arranger Robin Dewhurst. There will also be the opportunity to work with Soli Brass Band as well as learn about the art of conducting from Allan himself.

Skills

The course is open to all age groups and nationalities and will give the opportunity for conductors to develop their skills with an emphasis on technique, score reading, rehearsal and perfroming techniques, as well as exploring new music and musical programme planning.
