The halls of Groby Community College were ringing with the sound of slow melodies, duets, air varies and quartets on the weekend, as the Leicestershire Brass Band Association Spring Solo Contest got underway performing to adjudicators Sharon Stansfield, Dave Lea and Mark Smith.

Impressive turnout

The organising committee were delighted to see an impressive turnout from local bands, as well as those travelling some distance to take part.

The youngest two sections, with competitors under the ages of 11 and 15 respectively, attracted a large number of entries with over 50 musicians battling it out.

Lenton triumphant

There was also a pleasing number of entries in the Open Slow Melody with the top prize going to Sarah Lenton from Raunds Temperance. Sarah continued her form to also win her own age category and the Junior and Open Air and Variations sections too.

City of Coventry were leading the way in the group sections, claiming both the Duet and Quartet titles. Their four piece trombone section claimed the overall title, just narrowly beating their peers, also from City of Coventry, in to second place.
