New faces at Tredegar

Welsh champion reinforces the ranks ahead of Grand Shield assault with experience and Cornish cream.

Tredegar

The 2010 Welsh Regional champion, Tredegar, has strengthened the ranks ahead of their forthcoming Grand Shield challenge at Blackpool.

New players

The band has signed soprano cornet player Meirion Davies, previously of the BTM Band, as well as Lowenna Taylor on horn, Jake Pritchard on tuba and Bev Coates on percussion.

MD Ian Porthouse told 4BR: "We are delighted to welcome the new members to the band. Meirion Davies is one of Wales’ most experienced soprano players and has been playing with the band as cover for Matthew Williams who has was busy with the National Youth Orchestra of Wales."

Fine player

Ian added: "Matthew will stay involved with the band especially when we need a lead trumpet, but it is great news that Merion was available to take over immediately. He's a fine player with a great deal of experience."

Cornish youth

Lowenna and Jake come to Tredegar from the Cornish Youth Band and both are currently students at the Royal Welsh College in Cardiff. Meanwhile, Bev replaces Alan McNiel-Watson who has gone on to study at Wells Cathedral School.

"These are three great young players," Ian said. "I'm sure the trio will enjoy their time with us at Tredegar."
