North Skelton takes the honours at Ripon, despite a time penalty.

The Brass in Ripon Contest was held at Ripon Cathedral at the end of May, and although might have been a bit miserable the atmosphere inside Ripon Cathedral certainly was not.

Entertainment

10 bands, all with their own ideas on `entertainment' playeda 20 minute programme for adjudicators Richard Evans and Mark Sidwell, which had to include a march, hymn and solo item.

After an inspired performance, North Skelton, conducted by Rob Illsley, emerged as winners of the Ripon Festival Championship Rosebowl and £250 closely followed by the defending champions Ripon City with Clifton & Lightcliffe in third.

The quality of the soloists was particularly commended by the adjudicators4BR

Described by Richard Evans as, 'a class act', Ripon's principal cornet Mike Lumsdon deservedly took the 'Best Soloist' prize with his performance of 'The Paragon'.
