Brett Baker set to become British Trombone Society President.

Black Dyke’s Brett Baker is set to become the new President of the British Trombone Society.

New post

Brett will take up his new post on 3rd October and will become the first trombone player from the brass band movement to be appointed to the prestigious role.

Brett has been increasingly active in the BTS in the past few years, co-ordinating and participating in events up and down the country and his appointment follows luminaries such as Bob Hughes, Mark Nightingale, Chris Houlding, Roger Argente, Denis Wick, Don Lusher and Peter Gane as President.

Becoming BTS President could not come at a better time and I hope to increase the society’s profile even further within educational establishments and particularly within the brass band movementBrett Baker

Exciting time

Brett told 4BR: "This is an exciting time for me. I have just finished work as a full time head of department at a Cheshire high school to concentrate on activities such as the BTS as well as private teaching and some touring.

"Becoming BTS President could not come at a better time and I hope to increase the society’s profile even further within educational establishments and particularly within the brass band movement."

Vice President

Meanwhile, another former brass band trombonist, Carol Jarvis has been appointed the new BTS Vice –President.

Carol Jarvis is a successful orchestral trombonist and has in recent years been playing on tours with musicians Sting and Seal.
